The Quissett Harbor Sea Water level monitoring system

The Goal of this project, with our collaborators, is to take continuous accurate measurements of sea levels in Quissett Harbor, and around The Bay, and apply scientific methods to increase climate awareness and education in Quissett Harbor, Buzzards Bay, Cape Cod, and beyond.

The installation of the Hohonu sea water level monitoring instrument occurred on May 26, 2023. The instrument will monitor sea water levels in Quissett Harbor in real-time 24/7/365.  This initiative was led by the Quissett Association, partnering with the Quissett Harbor Preservation Trust and the Sippewissett Association for the purchase, maintenance, and data collection of the Hohonu system.

We are grateful to one of our members for providing a secure location on their dock for the installation of the system. In addition to monitoring sea water levels in Quissett Harbor, our data will be integrated within a network of similar devices monitoring sea water levels around the Cape/Buzzards Bay (e.g., NOAA-Woods Hole, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Barnstable Harbor, Tabor Academy, and Hyannis Harbor). We believe this initiative will provide more scientific data-driven awareness of sea water levels relevant to the impact of climate change, for years to come. We hope this enhances climate awareness and scholarship.

How to access the Hohonu dashboard on your smart phone or computer:

1. Install the link below on your web browser on your smart phone or computer:
<dashboard.hohonu.io>

2. The Hohonu dashboard will appear as above. The “Blue flags” are the current existing locations of the sea water monitoring devices. Click on any of the “Blue Flags” at that location and your screen will bring up data relevant to that location. Quissett Harbor will be online soon.

3. If you click on 30-day and 90-day historical data, you will be invited to “create your free account”, which will allow you to access the historical data.

4. If you have difficulty accessing the dashboard, please contact one of the Presidents for assistance.
